Overview
Stitching IOS and CBCT scans creates a comprehensive 3D representation of the patient’s anatomy. By combining the detailed root and skeletal structures from CBCT with the surface precision of IOS, you can:
Improve Visualization: Analyze both hard and soft tissues in a unified view.
Enhance Treatment Planning: Minimize risks of root collisions, overcrowding, and misalignments.
Streamline Workflow: Automatically process and stitch scans for immediate use.
Optimize Clinical Outcomes: Ensure accurate aligner planning, indirect bonding, and other orthodontic procedures.
This integration eliminates guesswork, offering clear and reliable anatomical details to support successful treatment planning.
Steps for Stitching IOS and CBCT
Step 1: Upload CBCT Files
Navigate to the Patients List page.
Click New Patient and enter the patient’s details, including First Name, Last Name, and Date of Birth (DOB).
Select 3D under the Image Type dropdown menu.
Choose the appropriate DICOM file format:
Single DICOM File: Upload a
.dcm
file.Multi Slice Directory: Upload a folder containing multiple
.dcm
files.ZIP/RAR File: Upload a compressed archive of
.dcm
files.
Drag and drop the file into the upload area or click to select it manually.
Step 2: Upload IOS Files
Return to the Patients List and open the 3D Actions menu.
Select Upload STL and upload the Upper Jaw scan, Lower Jaw scan, or both.
Drag and drop the STL file or click to browse and upload it.
(Optional) Enable the Create Stubs feature by clicking the ⚙️ icon in the top-right corner to include stubs in the segmentation.
Click Save & Exit to finalize the upload.
Wait for a notification via email or chat confirming the upload is complete.
Viewing the Stitched Segmentation
Open the 3D Viewer by selecting View STL from the 3D Actions menu.
Use the Switch Source option in the viewer's top menu to toggle between:
CBCT View: Displays the CBCT scan alone.
Stitched View: Displays the combined IOS and CBCT segmentation.
Export Options for Stitched Files
After stitching IOS and CBCT scans, you can export the combined segmentation for further use. Available options include:
Segmented STL from CBCT: Export a 3D model of the patient’s teeth and jawbones segmented from CBCT data.
Stitched Crown STL from CBCT: Export a stitched 3D model combining crowns and CBCT segmentation. This requires both CBCT/DICOM and IOS/STL files.
Segmentation Video: Export a video showcasing the stitched segmentation from various angles.
These files are compatible with most planning software, enabling seamless integration into third-party workflows.
